110km transmission line completed

PNG Power opened its 110km transmission line from Erap to Hidden Valley January 21, 2011.

Contractor HG Power Transmission completed the project despite the challenges faced. Ashok Kumar from HG Power said they were satisfied and proud of the project they spent more than two years to construct.

PNG Power CEO Mr Tony Koiri paid tribute to the hard working staff of both companies in getting the project completed given the rough terrain and landowner issues.

The 110km line taps into private-owned Baiune Hydro and PPL’s Ramu grid to supply the Hidden Valley Gold Mine project, which is owned and run by Morobe Mining Joint Ventures.

The line was constructed using conventional lattice steel towers. It crosses the Markham River to Baiune, follows the road to Wau and over the mountains to the Hidden Valley mine site.

The total cost of the project was K40 million.
