PNG Power and Landowners sign MOA
By Jeremy Mark
PNG Power has signed another five year development package with landowners.
The first Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) was signed between PPL and Arona Valley Development Authority (AVDA) on January 20, and the second with Sirinumu Development Company (SIDCO) on January 23.
Both landowner groups were happy to finally sign the MOAs with Acting CEO Tony Koiri after months of discussions on the Development Assistance Package (DAP).
AVDA Chairman Joe Toha and SIDCO Chairman Steven John both remarked that it was a big relief to all parties and gave reassurance of their commitment to working closely with PPL.
Mr Koiri thanked both groups for their cooperation and acknowledged the hard work involved in putting the agreements together by PPL and the landowners.
He told the two groups to use the funds wisely in their projects and work hard to ensure these projects are sustainable and promote self-sufficiency of their people.
Mr Koiri also stated that PPL would be assisting the two groups in advice and further non-financial assistance to help them achieve their goals.
The agreement states that the DAP would be utilised to promote the economic and social development of the landowners and their environment, in particular agriculture, commerce, industry, education, reforestation, welfare services, recreational facilities and community enterprises.
