Malaguna Rapolo projects about finished

PNG Power will soon light up Rapolo and Malaguna No 3 villages in East New Britain Province.

The 3.5 km RE project to Rapolo was completed and is yet to be energised as rehabilitation works were still in progress at Malaguna No 2.

The RE team, assisted by former PPL employee Benson Kupepe, will energise the new lines when the existing 1km Malaguna No 2 reticulation was completed.

Both projects began in December, 2010 and according to Team Leader Distribution, Peni Diave, they were expected to wrap up the projects by the end of March 2011.

Mr Diave said the team, which includes casuals who were local people from Malaguna No 2 and Rapolo villages, was working very hard to finish the project.

He said at the moment, rehabilitation work on the 22kV line is currently in progress from Town Feeder No 3 to Malaguna No 1 and 2 villages.

The project is co-funded by PPL’s operations unit and the RE unit through funding from Rabaul Open’s Dr Allan

Marat.

These villages were denied electricity since the volcano disaster in 1994 and the service has been gradually restored.
