New Managers to boost performance
The recruitment of Chief Operating Officer, Mr Bennie Smith and Chief Finance Officer, Mr Brendan Raftery, has come at the right time to boost the company’s performance.
CEO, Mr Tony Koiri made this remarks at a function held in the PPL Boardroom on February 11, 2011 to welcome Mr Smith and Mr Raftery.
Mr Koiri said he was glad both men came to PNG Power with a lot of experience to improve the company’s performance.
He said Mr Raftery, who was formerly with Westpac Bank in Port Moresby, had been in PNG
for 6 years and had considerable experience in finance whilst Mr Smith had extensive experience in the electricity, mining and gas industries, having worked with Rio Tinto in Australia.
Mr Smith thanked Mr Koiri for the warm welcome and recalled the first day he arrived.
“I got a baptism of fire when I arrived,” Mr Smith said.
He said the CEO highlighted the seriousness of the job and instead of visiting and meeting people, he got straight to work on day one.
He said he learnt quickly in integrating with the Executive Management Team and hoped to add value to the company and do his best in the long term.
Mr Raftery said even though he had been in the country for six years, he was still learning.
He said he believed that people made the difference and there was a solid framework in place and it would be a challenge to get the framework to work and become best practice.
Acting Board Chairman, Mr William Kenjibi welcomed Mr Smith and Mr Raftery on behalf of the Board and said PPL had come a long way as a changing organisation and it was good to have good human resource to progress and move the company forward.
Mr Kenjibi encouraged senior staff to learn from Mr Smith and Mr Raftery and vice versa in order to move the company forward successfully.
