Port Moresby System Outage & Easipay Vending on Digicel

The National Capital District and surrounding areas experienced a total outage on Wednesday evening following a technical fault on the Port Moresby system. The sudden outage of the Port Moresby System occurred during continuous lightning strikes and thunder during heavy rain at 6.12pm yesterday evening. The outage was due to the system tripping off from the LNG Power Plant and the Rouna 3 Hydro Power Station.

Easipay purchases through the Digicel Network

PNG Power Ltd would like to advise its Easipay Customers in Tari, Kokopo, Rabaul, Bialla and Wewak that there is an ongoing issue with delivery of Easipay Tokens through the Digicel Short Messaging Service (SMS). This is affecting customers who purchase Easipay using their Digicel Credits whereby Easipay purchase transaction is undertaken but the delivery of Easipay token through SMS platform does not happen.

SCADA System installed in Kokopo

PNG Power Ltd (PPL) commissioned a new Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) Centre at its Kokopo office to monitor the Gazelle Power Supply Grid. The SCADA Centre was officially commissioned last week and will boost the efforts of PPL personnel on the ground to locate faults and restore power supply within a required turnaround time.

PNG Power Ltd Home Ownership Scheme launched

PNG Power Ltd is committed to ensuring its staff buy or build their first home through its Home Ownership Scheme (HOS) which was launched today. The Scheme was approved by the PNG Power Ltd Board in April 2017. Under the scheme, the company will provide Equity and Housing Advance to help employees secure loans to buy or build/renovate their first home. This policy covers all employees throughout the country.

Management will not rescind its decision against employees

The PNG Power Ltd (PPL) Management will not rescind its decision to issue warning letter to a Contract Officer and a termination letter to a casual employee. This is because the two employees had breached their employment contracts with the company.

PPL stands down staff in Mt Hagen for Safety reasons

PNG Power Ltd advises electricity consumers in Western Highlands that it has stood down all its workers due to security reasons resulting from the trouble going on in the province as an aftermath of the declaration of the results for the Mt Hagen Open seat in Western Highlands Province. PPL personnel will not attend to any callout or any emergency calls as the safety of our staff and properties is important to us.

PNG Power Ltd Management to meet with Union Exectutives

The PNG Power Management will meet with the executives of the PNG Energy Workers Association on Monday, July 31, 2017 to go through all the issues raised by the Union. This follows action taken by PNGEWA members to stop work until their outstanding grievances are addressed by the Board and Management of PNG Power Ltd.

Buka operations to utilise a ‘Mobile’ generator

PNG Power Limited is happy to announce that a ‘Mobile’ Generator Set (Cummins KTA50 G3) is ready to be shipped over to its Buka Power-station this month. Once it arrives in Buka, PPL Technical Officers will fly over to install and commission the generator set to boost power generation capacity for the entire Buka customers.

PNG Power Ltd donates K20,000 to Cheshire DisAbility Services

PNG Power Limited has once again thrown its support behind the charitable work of the Cheshire DisAbility Services of PNG this month. Acting Chief Executive Officer Mr Alex Oa presented a donation of K20, 000 to assist the Charity Organisation, to continue its good work of assisting persons living with disabilities to live a normal life like abled-citizens.

Vandals to be prosecuted by PNG Power Ltd

Every action has its consequences which can be good or bad however vandalising PNG Power Ltd’s (PPL) power supply infrastructure has only bad implications on the electricity supplier and its consumers.PPL will not hesitate to prosecute those found to be vandalising its properties and have them pay the full cost of the revenue lost during an outage and cost of repair of the damaged caused or face imprisonment.
