This is a key leadership role within the Finance business unit at PNG Power Limited, hence the ideal candidate must be a strategic thinker, with proven capabilities to create change through inspiring team members to exceed key performance targets and be accountable for self and team.

 

Primary Objectives:

Reporting to the Financial Controller, this position is responsible:

  • For the timely preparation of the Company’s Monthly Management Reports;
  •  For the timely preparation of the other financial reports to external parties
  • To assist plan and compile current and future (forecast) cash flows, financial position and performance reports.
  • To lead the Cash Management, Planning and Reporting teams to deliver timely reports that meet executive management, board and shareholder expectations
  • To drive the Company’s annual planning and budgeting process
  • Support the compilation of the company’s annual Corporate plan through the use of recommended Financial Models and recommend change where deemed necessary
  • To identify, test and propose for process improvements by aligning key processes with the Oracle Accounting system;
  • To ensure General Ledger reconciliations are performed on a timely basis and balances are reasonable to be reported in the Company’s Financial reports.

Qualifications:

  • Graduate level qualification majoring in Accounting or Business Management
  • Certified Practicing Accountant (CPA) or nearing Completion
  •  Exposure with accounting firms in audit /assurance and business advisory would be highly valued

Minimum Experience:

The ideal candidate must have a successful track record in a Finance Management position preferably in an energy or construction sector. Specifically, the applicant must have sufficient experience and be able to demonstrate success in the following areas:

  • Leading teams to deliver on key business deliverables
  • Providing financial advice to all levels of management
  • A high-level understanding and managing of planning and budgeting, cash flow management and reporting, within a large organisation
  • Planning and coordinating activities, prioritising, monitoring and evaluating work flows and continually assessing and improving effectiveness of financial processes.
  • Conducting financial investigations and presenting the findings to Management
  • Addressing and enhancing inadequate service standards through change management and introducing new methods of working
  • Strong people management skills and be able to demonstrate success in organizational transformation, have strong business acumen.

Critical Skill & Attribute Requirements:

The demanding expectations of this role requires a self-driven leader with proven capabilities to lead the planning and reporting team and drive change to deliver performance targets. The candidate must possess the following key skills and leadership attributes:

  • Advanced level of spreadsheet based financial modelling and financial analysis
  • Experienced on the use of Oracle Accounting System with the added knowledge on its functionality and capability
  •  Management Accounting & Financial and Costing Systems
  • High level of knowledge of budget and forecasting issues and techniques
  • Ability to analyze and summarise complex operational and financial information
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with both internal and external stakeholders, including auditors, banks and government
  • Excellent communication skills (oral, written and interpersonal) and a proven team player, who is reliable, able to motivate others, has the integrity and accepts responsibility and is accountable, for performance and is result oriented
  • Must be flexible, team player, adaptable to change, enthusiastic self-starter, and eager to quickly assimilate new concepts and ideas
  • Possess good leadership and initiative qualities and can lead the team to achieve results with minimal supervision
