Bais appointed as Acting CEO

The Board of PNG Power Limited has appointed Director Strategic Planning and Business Development, Mr Chris Bais as Acting Chief Executive Officer effective as of March 29, 2016.

The announcement was made by Board Chairman, Andrew Ogil through a circular released to all staff on Wednesday March 30.

Mr Ogil said that the appointment will be for an indefinite period while the Board is dealing with suspended CEO John Tangits case. The change follows the retirement of the current Acting CEO, John Yanis. Mr Yanis has been in the position following the suspension of CEO John Tangit earlier this month.

Mr Ogil, in giving his blessings for the appointment said that Mr Bais is a very experienced and seasoned member of the executive management team, and has been with PPL for over 43 years.

“The Board’s decision to appoint Mr Bais is a vote of respect and confidence in his ability to lead the PPL staff and management in working closely with the board to drive the company forward. The Board is confident that Mr Bais is capable of achieving team work,” Mr Ogil highlighted.

He made an appeal to staff to turn up to work and support the Acting CEO in ensuring PPL continued to supply reliable power to its customers nationwide.

“Customers are the focus of this company, and are the reason why PPL is still in business today and why staff still receive their pay,” he said.

Mr Ogil also appealed to all Management and Staff to work together as a team with the Acting CEO and the Board to resolve all staff and union issues.

“We have to bring back stability into the workforce and ultimately PPL. The Board is serious about claims made to the Board.

Through Mr Bais, due process will be invoked to resolve some of these issues.”

“On behalf of the Board, I would like to call upon every staff to work with Mr Bais and support him in his role as Acting CEO,” Mr Ogil concluded.
