Mt Hagen business centre reopened

The PNG Power Ltd (PPL) Mt Hagen office has been reopened for business.

The business centre was reopened on Monday, August 1 for its valued business clients and customers in the Western Highlands Province.

Customers are also advised that the Mt Hagen office will start to back-bill all electricity supplied for the last three months that have not being billed during the time of the office closure.

As part of the mass disconnection exercise, PPL will continue the exercise into Mt Hagen and surrounding areas. This is aimed at recovering monies owed to PPL for electricity bills. It is important that PPL ensures that the general public who uses PPL’s electricity supply must pay for the services rendered.

To those who continue to use electricity illegally, I urge you all to call into the PPL office to get your electricity connected through proper processes.

The office was ransacked and looted on June 8, 2016 when opportunists took advantage of a protest march led by students in Mt Hagen and went on a rampage.

In the last two months, PPL has undertaken repair work to the building and replaced essential equipment that was stolen. The office was extensively damaged inside and outside with the cost of repairs amounting to over K500, 000.

It is unfortunate that the incident resulted in the office closure and leading to customers not being able to make payments for electricity bills.

I strongly appeal to the people of Mt Hagen and Western Highlands Province to take ownership as concerned citizens and look after PPL properties and assets to avoid such incidents in the future.
