NEW EDEVU-MOITAKA TRANSMISSION LINE UNDERWAY
PNG Power Ltd (PPL), PNG Hydro Development Ltd (PNGHDL) and landowners officially launched the new Edevu - Moitaka 132 kiloVolt Double Circuit Transmission Line project today at the Ruburogo Village, Port Moresby.
This marked a milestone for the landowners who have committed their land and natural resources to the generation and transmission of power supply to customers in the Central and National Capital District.
PPL and PNGHDL organized this ceremony to thank the three (3) major landowner groups along the transmission line route to pave way for the transmission line survey work to commence.
This transmission line project will transport 50 Mega Watts (MW) of power from the new Edevu Hydro Power plant, and eventually the 80 MW from Upper Naoro Brown Hydro Power plant to Moitaka and Gerehu substations.
The funding, design, construction, testing and commissioning of the transmission line will be done by PNGHDL, and PPL will operate the transmission line after testing and commissioning.
When completed, the Edevu and Naoro-Brown Hydro Power plants and this new transmission line will provide adequate electricity supply for customers in the nation’s capital and Central Province.
PPL is partnering with Independent Power Producers (IPP) like PNGHDL and landowners to develop new renewable energy projects to make electricity services accessible to a lot more of our people.
