Nipa to connect on Mendi power grid

PNG Power Limited (PPL) will soon add another 1000 plus customers to its current customer base of 2800 in Mendi, Southern Highlands Province.

This will be possible after the completion of the 80 kilometer 22 kV power project in the Nipa District. The power project will connect customers from Nipa into the Mendi Distribution Network.

This project is funded by the National Government and work is being carried out by an independent contractor.

Once the construction is complete, PPL will inspect and certify to ensure work meets its (PPL) standard requirements.

This is a very important project funded by the National Government, and it will boost our customers, as well as our revenue generation in Mendi.

The current generation capacity in Mendi is 1.2 megawatts from the Ramu Grid feed and has a customer demand of 700 kilowatts. When Nipa is connected, our current generation capacity can cater for Nipa as well as Ialibu.

It is an exciting time for the province to see its outer districts get connected to the electricity grid and boost the districts business activities and other key government services.

Major customers that will benefit from the PPL grid will be the new Nipa General Hospital which is opening in July, the William Powi Centre, and the new Government workers residence.
