PPL pays K1.6 million owed to CEPA
PNG Power Ltd (PPL) set a benchmark today by paying a total of K1, 642, 070.02 to Papua New Guinea Conservation & Environment Protection Authority (CEPA) and settled all its outstanding fees that accumulated over the past seven (7) years.
PPL values the work of CEPA, in ensuring PNG’s natural resources are sustainably managed. It is in PPL’s best interest to uphold its statutory obligations, and to set the benchmark for other companies and utilities to follow suit.
Moreover, as an energy utility, PPL has a duty to act in the best interest of the environment in which its business is operating in.
PPL generates over 50 % of its energy through hydro-power plants which is a sustainable energy source, thus maintaining its industry lead of being on par with the world’s trend toward using sustainable energy sources.
This payment settles all outstanding charges and fees for administration, environmental permit, waste discharge and water extraction for the years 2010 to 2016.
With the outstanding charges settled, PPL will obtain environmental permits for new power projects commencing in 2017.
PPL has a corporate social responsibility to contribute to the nation’s sustainable development by supporting CEPA and other stakeholders in the work they do for the environment to deliver economic, social and environmental benefits to all citizens and their wellbeing.
