Trade Assistants Become Qualified Tradesman

They began as simple trade assistants on casual employment but their hard work and persistence paid off when they were issued a Tradesman Certificate by PNG Power Ltd (PPL) on Wednesday, 14 March 2016.

These 17 strong men have worked with PPL as linesman for more than 10 years without an official paper that could qualify them as professional linesmen.

They joined PPL as casuals and worked closely with qualified electricians day after day and learned their trade in the field.

However, PPL under its training program enrolled them at the PPL Training College and provided high-standard technical training for (2) years from 2014 – 2016.

Their last training in the past two weeks ended on 14 March 2016 and they graduated with Tradesman Certificates and now they are qualified PPL linesmen.

PPL is proud to announce its 17 new qualified linesmen (tradesmen) as Wesley Jimmy, Daniel Mingtu, Gideon Kaupa,   Mandome David and Matep Liku of Port Moresby Operations; Paul Torot, Saul Warut, Peter Malila, Solomon Labur, Likun Minit and Lavo Joseph of Kokopo Operations; Damien Dupaku and Maxson Wikos of Tari Operations; Joe Laurovo of Kerema Operations, Luther Yamang of Finchafen Operations, Chris Wari of Banz Operations and Esau Topa’a of Wewak Operations.

“On behalf of the graduates, I thank  our employer PNG Power for taking us on board and giving us the opportunity of our life time and making us become who we have become,” representative of the linesmen Mr Easu Topa’a said at their graduation.

“We also want to give our big thanks to our instructors here at the college as well as our managers and team leaders in our respective centres for believing in us and training us in the field. We will do the best we can to serve our company’s interest,” Mr Topa’a said.
